It has been described as "a living connection to the blues music of the delta upstream of the Mississippi River and across the vast swath of America". His postmodern blues style is influenced by many eras and genres, including folk, rock, jazz, pop and country. The nickname "Keb Mo" was coined by his original drummer, Quentin Dennard, and was chosen by his label as the abbreviation "street talk" of his name.
